Stepstone Academy partners with professional sport teams

Posted: February 21, 2014

Stepstone Academy has partnered with the Cleveland Gladiators, an arena football team, to inspire its students to do well in school and to follow their dreams. Every week, Chris Deiker, the Gladiators’ quarterback, and LaRoche Jackson, the team’s cornerback, have been visiting Stepstone and handing out autographed pictures to the school’s scholars, students who show exceptional performance and behavior. This partnership means a lot to Stepstone’s students who look forward to the team’s visit and work even harder in class to ensure they can participate in the meet and greets.

Players from the Lake Erie Monsters, a professional hockey team in Cleveland, also visit Stepstone periodically to work with the students and motivate them to listen and participate in class. In October, the players painted pumpkins with Stepstone’s scholars to celebrate Halloween. In December, the Monster players purchased toys for the kindergarten students to celebrate the holidays.

OCCS is proud of Stepstone for finding exciting ways to motivate its students!
