Regional Representation

As a statewide sponsor of charter schools, OCCS believes in the value of using on-the-ground resources for our schools in the form of regional representatives. Regional representatives are located in each area of Ohio where we sponsor schools, and each works directly with our schools in a number of ways:

  • Attendance and assistance (if requested) at all governing board meetings;
  • Monthly visits to schools and meetings with school leaders, to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, as well as ongoing monitoring as it relates to compliance with statute and with the school’s charter contract;
  • Review of special education files, along with OCCS’ special education team and provision of individualized technical support;
  • Coordination of technical assistance for the school by connecting relevant school staff with OCCS staff and services;
  • Provision of monthly reports to school leaders and governing board members, which outline relevant compliance updates, legislative/policy changes that affect charter schools, events, and more;
  • Coordination of complaint investigation and working with school leaders to assist in handling;
  • Acting as a liaison with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and state support teams;
  • Attendance at school-wide events;
  • Working directly with school staff prior to “opening assurances” (ensuring each school is compliant 10 days before the start of the school year); and
  • Connecting schools with applicable trainings, resources, grants/scholarships, and serving as an advocate broadly in the community.
